College football is back! If you’re as big a football fan as we are at Peeled Sports then you spent the bulk of your Labor Day weekend watching the first big football games of the year. One of the biggest of these games took place down in Baton Rouge as two unranked powerhouses took each other on.
LSU of course recently won the CFB through the strength of Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase. Florida State has won it all as recently as 2013 behind the powerful arm of future NFL MVP- Jameis Winston.
On Sunday night, LSU was down 14 points as late as the fourth quarter. Tiger fans were beginning to lose hope while Seminoles supporters began to celebrate. If you watched the game however, you know about the twisted, incredible ending, fueled by the collapse (and I guess eventual rise) of the LSU kicker.
LSU came back and was suddenly down 7 points with one second left on the clock. They needed a touchdown and an extra point to tie.
With time expiring, the LSU QB- Jayden Daniels threw a dime to the back of the endzone where Jaray Jenkins was waiting to take it in for 6.
The only problem though, is that they were down 7.
Damian Ramos came in for the point after. He’d already made a field goal and and two extra points. There was no reason to assume he would miss this kick.
He missed the kick. Technically it was blocked, but he definitely could’ve kicked it higher and avoided the defensive line.
The missed field goal cost LSU an incredible first week comeback story and a soaring boost to team morale. Our reporters walked the LSU campus this morning to see if our hypothesis would be correct, and sure enough, there with his underwear hanging off the main campus flagpole, was the LSU kicker- Damian Ramos.
Our estimations put LSU at 6-6 this year. If they had made that extra point, we would have guessed 10-2. Ramos may never be removed from that pole, and we completely understand.
