Zdeno Chára has been in the NHL for a long time now, but after last night’s beatdown from down under the Mason-Dixon line, his 24th season in the league came to an end. And to the delight of everyone in the national hockey league, it also brought his extended career to and end. The former Stanley Cup champion has a reputation for being a giant jerk both literally and figuratively. Standing at 6’-9” tall, he’s been wandering around the ice putting grown men in the hospital for 24 years now.
Well, I’m here to tell you that the streak has come to an end. Zdeno Chára will not be putting his skates back on next year. Instead, he’s gonna buy some cleats and head down to the home of the last enemy he faced on the ice to join their partners on the gridiron. Chára is heading to the only place that would accept a washed up old man; Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We went to Zdeno to ask him about the change and he only gave us one sentence.
“If they won’t let me hit people, I’ll go to someone who will.”
We look forward to following Chára’s transition from the ice to the nursing home known as Raymond James Stadium.
