In an unexpected move by the former Super Bowl Champion, Doug Pederson went out in the last game of the NFL regular season, knowing that there were playoff implications on the line, and decided to throw the game. If the Eagles won the game, then the 6-10 Giants would have been the worst team to ever be thrust into the playoffs.
The game was going well. The Eagles were up in the second quarter. Jalen Hurts began to struggle but he was having a solid game. But all of the sudden he got pulled. Pederson brought his starting QB out of the game and sent in a previously unknown slinger named Nate Sudfeld, effectively giving the game to the Football Team.
But why did he do it? Pederson has always had a “win or die” mentality. He would never throw a game for any reason. Peeled Sports did some digging into the reasons for his apparent forfeiture, and we found it.
Apparently, right around the start of the second half of the game, a fan yelled out to Pederson something along the lines of “Hey Pederson! have fun with your tank you loser!” And he took that to mean that if he were to lose, he would receive a brand new tank, which evidently he wanted.
So he blew the game, walked up to that fan asking for his tank. Sufficed to say, he did not get his tank. Well, actually I guess he did get his tank. He got the 6th pick in one of the most obvious and useless tanking situation in the history of sports.
