Just after his first and only start of the season, Justin Verlander announced that he was dealing with an injury that could keep him out for a minimum of 2 weeks. Verlander ended the game with 7 strikeouts, a low total for someone at his caliber. He pitched 6 innings on opening day, collecting the quality start as well as the win. However, something about this game invoked an injury that will keep him out of his next few scheduled starts. And we found out what it was.
As a part of new MLB social distancing protocols, fans are not allowed in any stadium. Usually it would be fans in the outfield that would place K panels over the ledge so that they would be visible from the field, but there are no fans. So guess who has to do it? After every punch out, Verlander had to run out into right field, climb up the wall, grab a K and hang it up. We’re not sure exactly which K got to him, but it was definitely one of them.
